Recovery

A definition of Recovery; An easy effort utilising any low impact movement executed for approx 30 – 60 minutes at a very low heart rate, somewhat effortless ( about 60 – 65% of MHR). This can be done by rowing, swimming, a light jog, walk, cycle, skipping or any movement that puts you into that space of a perception of effortlessness is acceptable. A mountain bike ride is excellent, not only does it place you with nature where the positives of recovery are enhanced but you can also sharpen crucial physical skills such as coordination, balance, agility and neuro-muscular coordination. Single track work is excellent for this. The purpose of this extremely light work is to move blood around, flush by-products (waste) from previous day’s efforts, create a demand for nutrition and increase blood flow and oxygen uptake.

Is All Olive Oil Created Equal?

To begin with, there are several types of olive oil, each determined by the method of processing.

Virgin olive oil is produced only by physical means, rather than by chemical treatment. The best stuff comes from only ripe olives (as green and overripe olives produce bitter and rancid oil, respectively) ground into a paste using millstones or steel drums. By definition, a virgin olive oil has not undergone any processing other than washing, decanting, centrifuging, and filtering (although none of these are required for virgin oil, nothing else is permitted). Some heat can be applied and, as long as it doesn’t alter the composition of the oil, the process can still be dubbed virgin pressing.
